Mikumi National Park
About Mikumi National Park
The most accessible of the southern parks, a few hours from Dar es Salaam, with open floodplains that feel like a smaller, quieter Serengeti.
Mikumi’s Mkata floodplain is easy driving and easy viewing, which makes it a popular short add-on for travellers routing through Dar es Salaam rather than a standalone destination. Lion and giraffe sightings here are reliably good for the effort involved.

Practical notes
- •The one southern park reachable by road rather than a light aircraft.
- •Often combined with Nyerere or Ruaha on a longer southern-circuit trip.
- •A realistic option if your dates only allow a short add-on from Dar es Salaam.
